InterContinental® Miami New Media Digital Arts Program
The InterContinental Miami is an icon of the Miami skyline, a true expression of art and luxury, designed by world renowned architect Pietro Bellucchi. It is a world-class hotel that sits in the heart of Miami’s major destinations: at the crossroads of Downtown Miami and South Beach, Brickell’s Financial District and Downtown Miami’s Arts & Entertainment District, and now the ever-growing center point of Miami’s Arts and Technology scene.
The Hotel greets over 500,000 people each year, guests and locals, all passing through the Grand Lobby with perhaps one of the most significant sculptures in the country, The Spindle, by Henry Moore. Exposing people to the Arts is not a new initiative for the InterContinental® Miami; it is the basis by which its very foundation was built. The vision was present thirty years ago when slabs were being cut, numbered and shipped from Italy to the mouth of the Miami River. As the Hotel was built and assembled by number, the 70-ton marble Spindle sculpture was commissioned for the Hotel, after which a Grand Lobby was built around it.
This artistic vision was once again brought to life through a $30 million renovation in 2012 which included a new digital arts space throughout the lobby and exterior of the building. Using innovative design and technology installations, the creation of the InterContinental Miami New Media Digital Arts Program was born. Since its inception, the program has become an integral component of Miami’s creative industries, fostering and promoting the artistic and cultural assets of the community. We believe the evolution of technology is not meant to isolate, but rather to enhance creativity, innovation, collaboration and social interaction. There is no better place than in the heart of Miami, at the InterContinental Miami hotel.
As a partner in Miami’s growing arts and cultural community, InterContinental Miami is always eager to explore new relationships and cultivate strategic partnerships with artists and organizations alike, using the hotel’s one-of-a-kind digital arts platform.
