Social Responsibility At Our Miami Hotel

Giving Back To The City

Our community is immensely important to us. As the premier hotel in Miami, we're in a position to help the local community through social and environmental responsibility.

Collaboration

Each year, our staff participates in Responsible Business Week, in partnership with National Geographic’s Center for Sustainable Destinations. We also have a year-round partnership with Feeding South Florida, which is the area’s largest non-profit food organization, distributing over 2 million pounds of food each month to hungry South Floridians. The hotel also donates leftover food daily.

Environment

To date, our Miami hotel is the largest purchaser of wind energy in Florida. A buy of over 15 million kWh places us on the EPA’s Green Power Partnership’s 100% Purchaser’s List. Our purchase avoids an estimated 10,665 metric tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 2,091 passenger vehicles each year, or the carbon dioxide emissions from 1,330 average American homes each year.

Over initiatives include:

  • Operating in sync with the IHG Green Engage sustainability system to help us manage energy, water and waste more efficiently.
  • Our 2011 room renovation includes energy efficient lighting, low flow water toilets and faucets, and recycle bins in each of the guest rooms.

Community

InterContinental Miami has financially supported and generated awareness for a wide variety of organizations in the Tri-County Area. For 22 consecutive years, we have presented the InterContinental Miami Make-A-Wish Ball to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. As of 2016, the total amount raised through the Ball exceeds $20 million. 2016's event raised over $2 million dollars. The ball has featured performances by musical acts like John Legend and Marc Anthony.

We've also given to other area organizations, including Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theater, American Cancer Society, Florida Grand Opera, International Firefighters Assistance, University of Miami Project Medishare, Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate, and Wounded Warriors.

We continue to assist the Miami and Southern Florida community with new initiatives and involvement throughout the year.
